How to practise these words
These words all begin with a capital letter except the family ones, and a child who writes "monday" has made a real mistake that a spelling test will mark. Practise the capital and the spelling in the same breath rather than fixing them on separate evenings. The days and months have their own traps: "Wednesday" hides a letter nobody says, "February" hides another, and both are worth learning as their own small group away from the rest. Use them where they already belong, by asking your child to head the day's homework with the full date. The family words are easier, so use them to end a session on something your child gets right.
Where these words come from
Days, months and close family words appear in every primary curriculum and in the public-domain frequency lists alike, because a child cannot write a date, a letter or a piece of news without them. Nothing here comes from a particular school's list.
