How to practise these words
At this level a word is only useful if your child can spell it and reach for it under time pressure, so practise both at once. Give the word, ask for the spelling, then ask for a sentence that could sit in a composition; a word your child can spell but never uses has not really been learnt. The feelings group is the one that pays off fastest, because "reluctant", "anxious" and "frustrated" replace the plain words a Primary 6 composition otherwise repeats. Several of these have a quiet vowel in the middle that a child will drop if they write at speed, so slow the writing down before you speed it up. Ten words a week, revisited a month later, beats twenty-six words in one evening that are gone by the exam.
Where these words come from
These are PSLE-level words in the ordinary sense of the phrase: the vocabulary a Primary 6 child is expected to handle in composition and comprehension. They are drawn from general frequency lists and from common examination vocabulary, are not endorsed by or connected with the Ministry of Education, and are not taken from any school's own list.
